FIFTH BISHOP OF IMUS
This newly established website of the Diocese of Imus, after long years of planning and preparation, has finally come to fulfillment. The goals of this project are varied. But this innovation is not merely an imitation of contemporary trends or fads that are sometimes fleeting. In truth, this is the Diocese of Imus’ gesture of communion with all Local Churches, and with the whole Universal Church, as she strives to respond to the call:
“Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people.”
(Mark 16: 15)
In all possibility, the Lord Jesus may have anticipated that all missionary works are not confined merely to geographical locations in the proclamation of the Good News. After two millennia, the Church’s pastoral and missionary milieu indeed has evolved dramatically that now includes the vast expanse of cyberspace.
Ahead of time, Pope Saint Paul VI prepared for such a huge missionary task when he mentioned that since the Catholic Church “…was founded by Christ our Lord to bear salvation to all men and obliged to preach the Gospel…, it is, therefore, an inherent right of the Church to have at its disposal and to employ any of these media in so far as they are necessary or useful for the instructions of Christians and all its efforts for the welfare of souls.” (Decree on the Media of Social Communication, Inter Mirifica, 3)
It is for this reason that we have conceived and have pursued this project. Through this website, the Diocese of Imus wishes to bring to your communities, homes, schools, and workplaces the warmth of the Gospel, the spirit of communion and mission, and the beauty of being Church.
While it is true that nothing can substitute the joy of presence as we gather in prayer, as we celebrate the Sacrament of the Eucharist and other liturgical activities, and as we work together in the service of the poor within our respective ministries, it is my fervent prayer that this mode of communication would bind us closer together in faith, hope, and charity.
