Dear Brothers Priests, Consecrated Persons, and Lay Faithful of the Diocese of Imus, Greetings of peace!
The norms governing the liturgical calendar provide that solemnities take precedence over Sundays in Ordinary time. (Table of Precedence of Liturgical Days 1, 3, and 4) This year, the Solemnities of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist and Sts. Peter and Paul coincide with the evenings of Sundays in Ordinary time.
Hence, I enjoin all communities to observe the following:
1. All Evening Masses on June 23 (Sunday) will be celebrated as Vigil Masses of the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist instead of the 12th Sunday in Ordinary time. Vespers I of the said solemnity is also prayed.
2. All Masses on June 29 (Saturday), that include masses during the day and even the evening masses, will take the proper of the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. Vespers II of the solemnity is prayed in the evening.
Likewise, those who will participate in the evening masses on June 23 and June 29 will already fulfill their Sunday obligations.
May these celebrations increase in us the grace of faith and charity.
Given at the Chancery Office, City of Imus, Cavite on the 20th of June 2024.
